How to get to Yala national park

Yala is situated in the southern eastern corner of Sri Lanka and is believed to have the largest leopard density in the country. The easiest and most convenient way to get to Yala national park is via the Southern Expressway. A duration of almost 5 hours is expected to reach Yala national park from the Colombo International airport through the Southern Expressway. It will take approximately 4 hours and 45 minutes to reach Yala from places around Arugambay.

Animals that can be spotted in Yala national park

As mentioned previously, Yala national park is very popular for having the biggest leopard density in the country being home to 100 – 125 leopards. The top most frequently spotted animals are Elephants, peacocks, water buffaloes, crocodiles and sloth bears. Yala also has various species of deer like The Spotted Deer, Sambar Deer, Mouse deer, Hog Deer and Barking Deer. Yala also consists of the country’s most rare and endemic animals like The Sri Lankan Leopard, Asian elephant and Sri Lankan Flying Snakes. Yala is also home to Wild boars, Jackals, Monkeys, Land Monitors, Mongoose, Stalks, Pigeons, Bee eaters, Eagles, Falcons, Pelicans, King Fishers, Hornbills, many Aquatic Beings and numerous types of birds. Out of the 5 Blocks Yala is divided into, Block no 1 has the most leopard sightings.
